Chinese Tanker Crashes into Great Barrier Reef (GBR)

The title pretty much says it all. Apparently where the tanker crashed was closed off to shipping. Thanks to gCaptain for bringing this to my attention.

The Bloomberg story is here.

The NY Times story is here.

Below is Australian news coverage of the event and some AP raw footage:

  1. Ahoy Captain Black,

Craig from H2uh0. Thanks for your recent comments and for linking my blog! I went thru some of your posts and wanted to let you know that I grew up near the Chesapeake and spent many a day with my family on a small boat there. I now live in San Francisco and sail the bay on a weekly basis on our Newport 30. Love this boat! Anyway, I have a question for you. How did you get that great picture in the background of your site? It really makes your site stand out. If you could email me at fungod@gmail.com when you get a moment, I would really appreciate it. Last question, when do you hope to take off for your round about? Thanks again.

  2. Yeah, the Chesapeake is pretty good. A little light on wind when you want it the most but pretty good overall.

As for my circumnavigation; I don't really know yet but I'm shooting for (with fingers crossed) in about 4 years. Currently, I'm trying to learn as much as I can about boat repair, storm tactics (my next read I suspect) and brush up on my navigation skills a fair bit. I'm also saving up money to buy a seaworthy boat at the moment. Even just a starter boat really.

As for the background/site stuff; you should have that in your inbox shortly.

    Thanks for reading!
